Notice of Race
1 ORGANISING AUTHORITY
The organising Authority will be the Club de Mar de Puerto Calero and the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation, under the jurisdiction of ISAF, the support of Canarian Sailing Federation and the sponsorship of Canarian Government and Puerto Calero SA.
2 VENUE
The event will be held in Puerto Calero (Lanzarote - Spain) from the 9th to the 13th December, 2009.
3 EVENT GRADING
This event is an ISAF GRADE 1 event and a RFEV GRADE 1 EVENT.
This grading is subject to review by the ISAF and the RFEV Match Racing Committee. The regatta may be re-graded if there is a clear reason to do it.
4 PROVISIONAL PROGRAM
4.1 The provisional program of the event is as follows:
(a) Wednesday 9th: from 10:00 to 19:00 Registration and Crew weighing
From 12:00 to 18:00 Official practice.
19:00 Skippers meeting.
20:30 Opening ceremony.
(b) Thursday, 10th to Sunday, 13th December: Races
(c) The warning signal for the first race each day will be at 11.30
(d) Crew dinner will be held every evening at 20:30.
(e) Prize giving ceremony will be held as soon as possible after racing on Sunday 13th.
4.2 Unless excused by the Organising Authority attendance to the following is mandatory:
(a) First briefing, for skippers.
(b) Daily briefing, for skippers.
(c) Daily press conference, for those skippers appointed by the Organising Authority.
(d) Prize Giving Ceremony.
5 ELIGIBILITY
(a) TWELVE (12) skippers will be invited.
Only those skippers invited by the Organising Authority will be eligible to enter this event, within which group of twelve sailors, one place corresponds to the RFEV, another to Club de Mar de Puerto Calero and a last one for the J80 Lanzarote class.
(b) The registered skipper shall helm the boat at all times while racing except in an emergency.
(c) To remain eligible a skipper shall confirm acceptance in writing, (via fax or e-mail), to be received by the date specified on the invitation.
(d) To be valid, the acceptance of the invitation shall be accompanied by a 400€ entry fee, according to 6.2. It is possible to pay with credit card or with a bank transfer in the following account:

(e) All competitors shall meet the eligibility requirements of ISAF Eligibility Code 19.2
(f) All competitors shall have an ISAF Sailor ID (registering online in www.sailing.org/isafsailor). The skippers shall tell their ISAF ID to the Organising authority at registration.
6 ENTRIES
6.1 A team shall be considered as entered after having completed registration and crew weighing and having paid a Damage Deposit of 400,00€ (four hundred Euros).
6.2 Damage Deposit
(a) The entry fee will be turned into damage deposit. This deposit is the maximum payable by the skipper resulting from any one incident. In the event that the Organising Authority requires a deduction to be taken, the deposit may have to be restored to its original amount before the skipper will be permitted to continue in the event.
(b) The Damage Deposit (6.1) will be refunded at the end of the event upon fulfilment of paragraph 6.2 (a)
7 RULES
7.1 The event will be governed by:
(a) The event will be governed by the rules as defined in the RRSV 2009-2012, including Appendix C
(b) The rules for the handling of boats will apply and will also apply to any practice sailing and sponsor races. Class rules will not apply.
7.2 An International Jury (IJ) will be appointed in accordance with RRV.
8 BOATS AND SAILS
The Organizing Authority will provide the following boats and sails:
(a) The event will be sailed in J-80s.
(b) Eight (8) boats will be provided.
(c) Each boat will carry on board: Mainsail, jib and Gennaker.
(d) Boats will be allocated by draw, either daily or for each stage, as decided by the race committee.
9 CREW (INCLUDING SKIPPER)
(a) The number of crew (including the skipper) shall be four (4), with exclusive exception of female crews which will be five (5). All registered crew shall sail all races;
(b) The maximum total crew weight, determined prior to racing shall be 350Kg, when wearing at least shorts and t-shirts;
(c) When a registered skipper is unable to continue in the event, the Organising Authority may authorize an original crew member to substitute him, in such a case, a new crew member shall be included before the beginning of the races.
(d) When a registered crew member is unable to continue in the event the Organising Authority may authorise a substitute, a temporary substitute or other adjustment.
10 EVENT FORMAT
(a) The event will consist of Round Robin, semi-finals and Finals.
(b) The principal race officer in accordance with the Organizing Authority may change the format, terminate or eliminate any stage when conditions do not permit the completion of the intended format.
11 COURSE
(a) The course will be windward/leeward, rounding the marks to starboard and finishing to leeward.
(b) The racing area will be located in waters of Arrecife and Puerto Calero (Lanzarote) and it is shown on chart Nº 504 and 206
12 ADVERTISING
(a) As boats and equipment will be supplied by the Organising Authority, regulation 20 applies. Each boat will be required to display advertising as supplied by the OA.
(b) Competitors may display advertising but this will be subject to individual agreement with the Organising Authority.
(c) Competitors shall not be permitted the right to protest for infringements of any rules regarding advertising (amends RRV 60.1).
13 PRIZES
(a) Trophies will be awarded to the crews ranked first, second and third in the final results by Club de Mar Puerto Calero
(b) Prize Money will be awarded, as approved by the RFEV, to the crews ranked first to tenth in the final results.
(c) ISAF has been told about prize Money. Amounts are detailed below.

(d) The Organising Authority may reduce the amount of a prize in the case of misconduct or refusal to comply with any reasonable request, including attendance at official functions.
14 MEDIA, IMAGES AND SOUND
The Organizing Authority may require media personnel and equipment to be carried on board while racing and may require competitors to be available for interviews.
In participating in this event, a competitor automatically grants to the Organising Authority, the right in perpetuity, to make, use and show, at their discretion, any motion pictures and live, taped or film and other reproductions of him/her taken during the event, both on the water and ashore, whose content is related to his/her participation in the event.
15 SUPPORT BOATS
(a) Support boats shall clearly display the identification of the crew they are supporting.
(b) Interfering with the event or with the organization of the event may cause a penalty to the appropriate skipper or crew, at the discretion of the protest committee.
16 ACCOMMODATION AND MEALS
Club de Mar Puerto Calero, will provide with accommodation from the 8th to the 14th November and breakfast, picnic and dinner on the racing days.
17 DISCLAIMER
All those taking part in the Event do it at their own risk.
The Organising Committee or any person or body involved in the organization of the event rejects any responsibility whatsoever for any losses, damages, injuries
or inconveniences that may occur to persons or things, both ashore and afloat, as a consequence of the participation in the races covered by this notice of race.
18 INVITATIONS
Only entries from invited skippers will be accepted. If you wish to be invited, please send the enclosed application to the Organising Authority as soon as possible
